Halley's Bible Handbook:
Dr. Henry H. Halley, author, minister, and Bible Lecturer, was ordained to the ministry in 1898. He developed a fondness for memorizing favorite passages of the Bible until he could recite from memory entire books from the Bible, in abridged, connected form and in their own words. For many years his lifework was the giving of these Bible recitals, each one preceded by an introductory statement about the historical setting of the book. Out of these recitals grew Halley's Bible Handbook. Twenty-fourth Edition, Copyright © 1965 by Halley's Bible Handbook, ® Inc. "The Bible is the most precious possession of the human race." Halley's Bible Handbook Has:
Halley's Bible Handbook was born out of the conviction of Henry H. Halley that everyone ought to read the Bible daily. From its first edition, a small give-away booklet of 16 pages, it has grown into an 864-page "almanac" of biblical information, used regularly by hundreds of thousands of laymen, teachers, and ministers. Halley's Bible Handbook contains more biblical information than any other book of its size. It has been a continuous best-seller through the years and has sold more than five million copies in many languages. (-from the Front and Back Covers.) Halley On His Handbook: "...It is not designed as a text book, but rather as a handy brief manual, of popular nature, for the average Bible reader who has few or no commentaries on the Bible. However, many Bible classes use it; and many accomplished Bible scholars, possessors of large libraries, have been most cordial in acknowledging its helpfulness. Its usefulness may be enhanced by looking through it a good deal, so as to become familiar in a general way with its contents... ...it is certainly as readable as the average newspaper... ...In the main, it is a book of FACTS, Biblical and historical. I have sought to avoid featuring my own opinions on controversial subjects... (-from the "Foreword" by Henry H. Halley.) _____________________________ Our Comments: This is one of those books which should be in every Christian's personal library. It is not a book just to read, but to have at hand at all times to look up things in the Bible and find out more about them, as well as their historical background and context. -The Prayer Foundation ™ ______________________________ |
