Young Luis Palau was mesmerized by his father's zeal for evangelism. In spite of name calling, insults, and rock throwing, Luis Palau, Sr. continued to tell the people of Buenos Aires, Argentina, about God's love and redemption. But when his beloved "Papito" died suddenly, Luis turned his back on God and the gospel. Years later, on a rainy night, a scared and broken Luis fell to his knees and confessed Jesus as his Lord. He was soon overwhelmed with a passion to share the Good News and tirelessly preached the gospel from Colombia to to Mexico, earning the title, "the Billy Graham of Latin America." I have been blessed to hear Dr. Graham preach in person once, in Dwight Moody's Church in Chicago. I have been blessed to hear Luis Palau preach in person several times. This is the first of the "Heroes of the Faith" books in which Monk Linda and I were actually present at an event mentioned in the book. This is the first of the "Heroes of the Faith" books in which Monk Linda and I were actually present at an event mentioned in the book. It was Luis Palau's first experiment having "Christian Festival" (an Evangelistic Crusade with young people's Christian Bands providing the Music). This Evangelistic crusade was so successful, that it is now the way Luis Palau practices Evangelism in the U.S.A. This event is mentioned near the end of this book. It occurred in Portland, Oregon, and was Luis Palau's very first Evangelistic effort in Portland's Waterfront Park. Portland, Oregon, happens to be the world headquarters for both the Luis Palau Evangelistic Association (LPEA), and also for The Prayer Foundation ™.
