Yes, Virginia...there really is an actual, physical Celtic Cross Shield hanging on one of the walls of our monastery!

For years it hung on the wall of the stairs descending to the garage (our lowest floor), but in 2006 we moved it to the wall by the front entrance door.

This is an actual photograph of it.  It is about 2 1/2 feet high, made of wood with a bolted on metal rim, and the two heavy leather straps that your left arm goes through are bolted to the back of it so it can be carried.

Monk Preston, who also designed our standard logo (seen at the top of this page) hand-painted the shield himself many years ago (no one seems to be able to remember just when).  It has a dark forest green background (we have always called that color "Monk Green"), and a white Celtic Cross is painted on top of that.

It has always reminded us to take up the "shield of faith" as a part of "the whole armour of God":

"Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." -Ephesians 6:16
